Big event at Oaks Bottom Public House - December 27, 2006

Our Oaks Bottom Pub singing group is well into the Twelfth night festivities. Jim Parker, landlord for the OBPH, launched a new beer in honor of the Bridgetown Morris Men foreman, as mentioned in the Dec. 13 post. The session beer is called Hugo's Bitter and will be served at other Portland pubs as well, including the New Old Lompoc and the Horse Brass Pub, among others.

Our usual crowd of a dozen singers was augmented by a dozen more. At one point we moved back the tables and got a side to do some Morris dances. The event was covered by John Foyston, the Oregonian beer editor, and Tim LaBarge, the Oregonian photographer.

Here's our song list from that evening:
With a warm thanks to all who attended and contributed their good cheer, Happy New Year.

Oaks Bottom Public House - Set list - December 13, 2006

It's holiday season and, bleary-eyed from contributing to the Portland Revels, we once again took to the Oaks Bottom Public House, the Sellwood neighborhood pub. Here's our song list from that evening:

It looks as though Jim Parker, landlord of the Oaks Bottom Pub, is going to make Glanville's Homemade Beer worthy of actually drinking. The morning of the 14th of Dec. M. Glanville visited Lompoc's 5th Quadrant brewery to start the process. Along with Jim Parker, other folks present at the start was the head brewer at Weinhardt's for 20 years, Scott, and Derick the current head brewer at Lompoc.

M. Glanville informs us:

It's made with the Willamette - Fuggle hop, I'm adding fresh
Challenger hops... to increase the hop aromatic to complement
the fundamentals from the first boil. This combination of hops
is identical to Tanglefoot, my favourite beer from the Badger
Brewery in Dorset on the south coast of old-England.
They brewed up a double batch - something like 14 barrels. We'll have a taste of it 'round Dec. 25th. Let's hope noone's legs get set afire, as chronicled in the song.

Oaks Bottom Public House - Set list - December 6, 2006

Once again we took over the Oaks Bottom Public House, the Sellwood neighborhood pub that hosts a group of local Morris dancers, who, after their Wednesday evening practices, arrive at the pub around 9:00pm and lead the customers in drinking songs.

Our dear friend and pubsinging inspiration, Dick L., had an unfortunate tennis tumble on this morning, and could not join us this evening. However, we sang many a tune and drank many a toast with his recovery foremost in our minds.
